Statement on Notwithstanding Clause

OTTAWA — Noa Mendelsohn Aviv, Executive Director of the  Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), made the following remarks today:
The government of Ontario is trying to pass a law that violates the Charter rights of Ontarians. Just a few years ago, a court decided that a different law that tried to impose a contract on workers violated the Charter and was unjustifiable.
This time, the Ontario government is using the notwithstanding clause to impose a contract and run roughshod over individual rights.
