California Proposition 1 (2022): Amends the state constitution to protect abortion rights, guarantee reproductive freedom

Proposition 1 adds an amendment to California’s state constitution (Section 1.1, Article 1) prohibiting the state from interfering “with an individual’s reproductive freedom in their most intimate decisions, which includes their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and their fundamental right to choose or refuse contraceptives.” The amendment was drafted and passed by both houses of California’s state legislature in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s May 2022 Dobbs v.
